History

Hughes Safety Showers was incorporated in September 1968 in the UK specifically to manufacture Emergency Shower and Eyewash Equipment. The company soon became the market leader and for the past forty years has been the largest specialist manufacturer of this type of equipment throughout Europe.

Since then the company has grown considerably on a global basis, first establishing a German Sales Office in 2000 to support increasing business in Europe, which helped to strengthen the group's position and enabled the company to cater more effectively to the growing European safety market, and later opening two new sales offices in Canada and the Middle East to support Hughes' growing presence in the respective markets.

Hughes North America Inc was formed in 2006 through a joint venture with Sarnia Piping Specialities (SPS) to provide locally based sales and technical support for customers throughout the USA and Canada.
The company, based in Ontario, distributes a wide range of emergency safety showers and eyewash/facewash equipment manufactured by Hughes Safety Showers.

SPS was already well established in the Petrochemical, Refinery, Pulp and Paper, Food and Drug, Power, Mining, Water treatment, Automotive, and Manufacturing industries. Already a Hughes distributer in North America, the decision was taken to form a separate business focusing solely on emergency safety showers and eyewash/facewash units.

Through this local presence customers have direct access to specialists who understand their business and their safety requirements.

Hughes Middle East, operating out of the Sharjah International Free Zone in the UAE was established in 2006 to provide valuable technical and commercial support to the company’s local distributors and strengthen Hughes' presence across the Gulf States.

Hughes North America is now looking forward to building on the phenomenal success of its first two years and will continue to strive for excellence within the field of Health & Safety.
